Documentation

From the sector-wide Rule Book and Zakboekje to your own rulebooks and operational documents: written, kept current and distributed. Digitally through RailSysteem, in print on request.

Operational documentation is only worth having if it is right. OBV writes your documents, works every relevant change in legislation into them, and makes sure the version your staff hold is the current one. We spot those changes ourselves, through the same monitoring our Legal Desk runs on.

How it works

  1. 1

    Writing

Documentation built around your organisation, together with your own subject specialists.

  2. 2

    Keeping it current

Relevant changes in legislation and regulation are worked in continuously.

  3. 3

    Distributing

Digitally through RailSysteem, so everyone has the current version, and printed where paper is more practical.

What we produce

Rule Book

Every rule for drivers and shunters, in one book

The Rule Book brings together the national and European legislation and the ProRail regulations that apply to staff with safety-critical tasks, in particular drivers and shunters. OBV has maintained it since 2006, and most of the Dutch rail sector uses it. A working group of passenger operators, freight operators and contractors does the editing; our Legal Desk secures the legal accuracy.

  • 2,000+ users
  • Maintained by OBV since 2006
  • All relevant legislation and ProRail regulations in one book
  • Your own company rules folded in optionally, so your operational staff carry one book
  • Edited by a working group from the sector, legally secured by our Legal Desk
  • An AI assistant: ask in plain language and get an answer with its source

Zakboekje Goederenmaterieel

The reference book for the wagon inspector

Every regulation a wagon inspector needs, in one compact reference. Compiled and updated each year together with DB Cargo Nederland, so the contents match day-to-day practice.

  • A Dutch translation of Appendix 9 to the GCU (General Contract of Use for Wagons)
  • The relevant parts of the RID and the UIC loading guidelines
  • Digital, and as a printed bound pocket book
  • Updated annually
  • With DB Cargo Nederland

Bespoke documentation

From an operating instruction to a pocket card

Specific operating instructions, pocket cards, work instructions or technical documentation: we develop the document you need together with your own subject specialists, digital or printed.

Also available

  • European Instruction forms, printed in pads, to the model in ProRail’s Book of European and National Instructions.
  • A Dangerous Goods pocket card.

The AI assistant

Looking a regulation up takes time, particularly on the move. With the AI assistant on the Rule Book your staff ask their question in plain language and get an answer straight from the regulations, with a reference to the source. No hunting through chapters, and always the right article to hand.

How this fits with the rest

Our Legal Desk spots the changes in legislation and regulation; this service works them into your documents. All of it sits in RailSysteem, alongside your training, qualifications and passes.
